1. Avoid unnecessary restriction.
There are a few reasons why you might want to cut out a food completely – it makes you ill, you don’t like it, it’s too expensive etc. But restriction increases food cravings. Don’t impose unrealistic food bans on yourself and prioritise the positives – think what you can eat, not what you can’t.
2. Focus on the process
Focus on the process, not the outcome. Concentrate on developing sustainable behaviours and habits instead of fixating on the outcome. This is easier to do, more fulfilling, less stressful, and will result in lasting success.
3. Be consistent
When it comes to your nutrition, aim to be consistently good, not occasionally perfect.
4. Make small changes
Look to make the smallest change that has the biggest impact. For example, simply eating more green vegetables will likely have a more positive outcome on health compared to worrying about if you should exercise on an empty stomach or not., for example.
5. Out of sight, out of mind
An easy tip to conserve your willpower for when you really need it is to make unhealthy eating a hassle. If you’ve got some tempting foods that may sabotage your progress in the house, make sure they’re kept out of sight. If it’s more inconvenient to get to them, you’re less likely to eat them.
